Is it Tuesday? So we made it to Frankfurt, and just made our connecting flight to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Our luggage though was not so fortunate. We understand it to be touring the world cup venues and eating schnitzel as we speak. More on that later. Another 6 hours of tedium and at long last we arrived in Kazakhstan, birthplace of our daughter-to-be. After to formality of customs, we were called over to the lost and found desk – never a good sign the second you set foot in a country. Our bags would not be joining us on this evening, or the next, or the next. The fine folks at Lufthansa were kind enough to give us some cash and a bag of mini toiletries for our troubles, but there’s just something to be said for having clean socks and underwear. Since we landed at midnight, it’s now actually the 22nd, but you really shouldn’t be paying that close attention. After a 20 minute ride to our hotel, which inexplicably included a scenic tour of Almaty (at 1 am), we caught a few hours of zzz’s and were up at 6 am for our next and final flight on the little prop plane pictured here. |
